The Keystone Collection: Minimalist Stacking Stools for Modern Spaces

Introducing the Keystone Series

Endure Designs drew inspiration from local bars and cafes, where they noticed that comfort was often sacrificed for the sake of aesthetics. With the Keystone Collection, they sought to remedy this by creating stools that are not only visually appealing but also incredibly comfortable.

The Keystone Collection stands out from other stools with its unique properties and strengths. These minimally styled stacking stools are available in both short and tall formats, allowing for versatility and complementing each other nicely. The modular steel design offers a wide range of customization options, from color choices to aesthetic variations, ensuring that each stool is tailored to the individual's preferences.

When it comes to the production process, Endure Designs experimented with various options before settling on the current setup. The seat is made from rolled aluminum, while the legs are crafted from round steel bar that is CNC bent into shape. The parts are painted separately, allowing for easy customization and a variety of color options. This approach also ensures that the stools are durable and long-lasting.

The Keystone Collection comes in two sizes: the low stool, measuring 535mm in height, 420mm in width, and 380mm in depth, and the high stool, standing at 700mm in height, 370mm in width, and 415mm in depth. Both sizes are designed to provide optimal comfort and support.

These stools are not only visually appealing but also user-friendly. The seats feature cutaways on both sides, making it easy to pick them up and stack them on top of one another. Whether you're in a cafe, bar, or home kitchen, the Keystone Collection offers a seamless and enjoyable seating experience.

The Keystone Collection was developed by the talented design team at Endure Designs, including Connor Mairs and Sebastian Davies. The project began in September 2017 in Canberra, Australia, and the final designs were completed in January 2018.

Extensive research was conducted throughout the design process. Sebastian's work at a metal production business and online research for alternative manufacturing methods provided valuable insights. Material research was also conducted to find high-quality and cost-effective suppliers and manufacturers. Additionally, data collection was done both in person at bars and cafes and online to understand the target market and the need for these stools.

Despite the challenges faced during the design process, such as implementing the stacking function while maintaining an appealing aesthetic for the low stool, the Keystone Collection emerged as a successful and innovative design.

The Keystone Collection has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that contribute to quality of life improvements. The Keystone Collection showcases strong technical and creative skills, making it a valuable addition to any space.
